Shoprite appoints Wendy Lucas-Bull as the retailer’s chairperson

Retail giant Shoprite has appointed Absa Group chairperson Wendy Lucas-Bull as the retailer’s chairperson designate.

Lucas-Bul replaces long time chairperson and founder Christo Wiese. Wiese is credited with expanding what was a small supermarket chain store into a pan-African retail giant.

He will remain on the board as a non-executive member.

Last November Shoprite said the board was of the view that in line with good corporate governance, the next group chairperson should be independent.
