A three-year-old boy accidentally shot dead his mother while sitting in a car in Illinois, USA, last Saturday.
According to Newsweek, the family had been sitting in the car when the little boy got hold of a firearm and used it to shoot at his mother.
Dolton police told the publication that the toddler’s father was taken into custody after he admitted to owning the gun used in the shooting.
“The mum was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead,” cops said.
It was reported that the father had not yet been charged by cops.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, a database that collected information about shootings from across the USA, many people had been shot dead in Illinois since the beginning of the year.
“The database found that since 1 January, some 139 people in the state have been fatally shot with a firearm,” the article read.
