Shauwn Mkhize (formerly Mpisane) has taken the reality world by storm with her new show, Kwa Mam’Mkhize. The flamboyant businesswoman has viewers glued to their screens every Thursday but building her multi-million-rand empire has not been without drama. Here are a few controversial incidents that might shock you.

That time she was arrested for fraud…
The Durban businesswoman was arrested in 2013 on charges related to fraud. She was accused of providing false information to the Construction Industry Development Board in order to get grading that helped her gain access to R140 million worth of government tenders.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew all tax and fraud charges against her in 2014. But the taxman continued to hound her. SARS claimed Shauwn owed R204-million in tax. She opened up about her drama with “the most feared organization (SARS)” in a recent Instagram post.

“Even though my rights were violated, publicly humiliated, named & shamed, trialed and sentenced by the media before the court made its own ruling. I’m still standing firmly my ground . In 2013, the Asset Forfeiture Unit descended on Shauwn’s posh La Lucia mansion in Durban to seize some of her assets.

The first thing to go was her fleet of luxury cars, including two Porsches, a Ferrari, a Maserati, a BMW and a Dodge Ram. According to the Daily News, 25 luxury vehicles were taken. Shauwn reportedly paid a court appointed curator R5,6 million to get some of the vehicles back. SARS officials descended on the La Lucia home once again in March 2019…

That time Shauwn was convicted of VAT fraud…
According to a 2012 report in the Sunday Times, Shauwn was convicted of VAT fraud in 2005.

She was reportedly fined R15 000. Shauwn also received a three-year jail term, which was suspended for five years.

That time she lost her Royal Eagles club to her estranged husband…
Things got messy between Shauwn and her estranged husband Sbu Mpisane in 2019. The couple fought over the ownership of their soccer club, the Royal Eagles FC.

Shauwn reportedly tried to register the club in her name at the PSL offices but her attempt failed. The businesswoman had changed the club’s name to Royal AM – in honour of their son Andile Mpisane.

The club’s name was changed back to Royal Eagles and Shauwn eventually pulled out of the ownership battle. Sbu was then declared the club’s sole owner. Andile took to Instagram to slam his father.

That time she was accused of attempting to bribe a witness…
According to the Daily News, Shauwn was arrested in 2012 for allegedly trying to bribe a witness in a fraud case.

She was facing 173 charges of fraud, forgery and uttering involving R4.7m. Bribery and defeating the ends of justice were added to her rap sheet.
