Stolen solar panels found on a shack’s roof
A tsotsi’s luck ran out when a joint operation by law enforcement bust him in his tracks on Wednesday, 12 April.
The 37-year-old suspect is believed to be part of a syndicate responsible for stealing solar panels, water pumps, and other items in Dorset outside Lephalale, Polokwane.
The arrest was made possible by a collaboration of cops, Community Policing Forum, Rural Safety as well as security services.
The operation was activated after a positive tip-off was received about the location of stolen items believed to have been allegedly stolen from Lodges in the area.
The team pounced on two suspects at an informal settlement where one of the tsotsis managed to evade arrest by running away on foot.
Different shacks in the area were searched and three stolen solar panels and one water pump were seized. Further investigation was conducted and an additional two solar panels were recovered hidden on the rooftop of a shack in Vaalwater policing area.
The total number of solar panels recovered is five, and the total value of the recovered items is estimated at R40 000.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the team for the well-coordinated operation that led to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the stolen items.
The suspect has appeared before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 April facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
