Severe thunderstorms and hail expected in parts of EC

Showers and thundershowers are expected over the central parts of the country on Saturday, with some drizzle expected over the eastern parts of Limpopo, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned.

Showers are also expected over parts of the Western Cape as a result of the cut-off low west the country.

A yellow level 1 warning for damaging winds has been issued between Plettenberg and Port Edward by evening and persists along the Wild Coast.

A yellow level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms with large hail and strong winds has been issued over the north-eastern parts of Eastern Cape.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Tsantsabane and Gamagara Local Municipalities of the Northern Cape as well as Beaufort-West and Prince Albert local municipalities of the Western Cape

Gauteng: Partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn index: very high.

Mpumalanga: Cloudy in the east with morning fog along the Escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers. It will be hot in places in the Lowveld.

Limpopo: Cloudy in the east with drizzle and morning fog along the Escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated thundershowers in the extreme south-west.

North West: Partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers but isolated in the extreme east.

Free State: Partly cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers. It will be warm in places in the south.

Northern Cape: Fine over the central parts, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the extreme north-eastern parts. It will be cool in places in the west. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong north to north-westerly, but light to moderate westerly to southwesterly east of Still Bay.

Western Cape: Partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain, except in the north-east, but scattered along the southwest coast and adjacent interior. It will be warm in the extreme east as well as along the south-coast.

The wind along the coast will be light southerly in the south but strong north-westerly along the west coast becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly but strong in the south by evening The expected UVB sunburn index: High.

Western half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers. It will be hot in places along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh westerly to south-westerly.

Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers. It will be hot in places along the coast. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong easterly to north-easterly, becoming moderate to fresh south-westerly by evening.

KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog patches over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected The wind along the coast will be Moderate to fresh northeasterly, becoming strong in places at times The expected UVB sunburn index: very high.
