Nelson Mandela Foundation raises concerns over service delivery

The Nelson Mandela Foundation is concerned about poor service delivery in the country.
As it marks Mandela Day, it says it’s looking for alternative ways to get services to the people.
The foundation says lack of services leads to greater voter apathy.
“What we are trying to do is to build what we’re calling a social bonding practice by working with structures of the state, structures of civil society, but also trying to harness the resources of the private sector.
“We are building from the bottom up as it were to see if there is not another way of making things happen, of ensuring that services are delivered to our communities,” said NMF CEO Verne Harris.
“We also have to build a far greater pressure on our political elites to be held accountable because right now we are overwhelmed almost by cynicism, depression.
“I was with a group of Wits students two weeks ago, 30 of them, they all said they’re not voting next year because its pointless.”
