Senzo Meyiwa murder trial: Defence accuses police of taking accused to crime scene

The defence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has accused police of taking one of the accused to the house where the football star was killed denying that he offered to take them there.
The court heard testimony from the cop who drove Muzi Sibiya to point out where Meyiwa was killed, at the home of his girlfriend singer Kelly Khumalo.
According to the State, Sibiya asked to be taken to the entrance of the area so he could direct them to the house where he and his co-accused murdered Meyiwa.
But Sibiya has now denied this.
The evidence pertaining to pointing out allegedly made by Muzi Sibiya on 5 June 2020, was admitted together with his confession after the trial within a trial.
But the judge could change his decision depending on the rest of the evidence led in the trial.
On Thursday, the State called the police officer who drove Sibiya to point out the crime scene – Captain Martin Nailana.
Sibiya’s lawyer Thulani Mngomezulu reiterated his version that he did not take the police officers to the house where Meyiwa was killed, but the police took him to a house that they already knew.
“What made you choose Barry Marais as the entrance to Vosloorus? He asked you to take him to Vosloorus not where to off-ramp. The main road that is used by people to go to Vosloorus is where you get the big sign that says: ‘Welcome to Vosloorus’. That’s why I chose that road.”
Mngomezulu’s cross-examination was cut short when Nailana said he could not remember how to get to the Khumalo home, as he was being directed by Sibiya on the day of the pointing out.
