The trial within a trial in the Senzo Meyiwa case is reaching its final stages as both parties in the trial will now prepare to make formal arguments.
The court has been hearing evidence on the admissibility of confessions signed by two of the accused.
Two of the five men accused of murdering the football star signed confessions but have now reneged saying they were assaulted into signing.
Meyiwa was shot at the home of his girlfriend – singer Kelly Khumalo – in October 2014.
It’s been four months since the trial within a trial commenced in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case, and 16 state witnesses later, this leg of the matter is nearing its end.
The court has also heard testimony from the two accused – who gave their versions on the witness stand.
Now, both parties will have to prepare to make formal submissions before court and argue on the admissibility of the statements.
The court has agreed to give the State until 23 February to file their heads of argument and the defense will respond by 1 March.
The matter will reconvene for formal arguments to be made on 4 March.
