Health practitioner arrested for selling permits

A “bogus“ Durban health practitioner was arrested after it was found that she had been selling and issuing Professional Driving Permits (PDPs) in Rossburgh.

The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), said it received a complaint in November 2020, of Pretty Mkhize issuing the PDPs without the authorisation to do so.

“After consultation with the SAPS and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), Section 252A was applied and surveillance was conducted to determine the veracity of the complaint.

“During the operation, Mkhize was identified as the person who oversaw the practice, along with other persons who she had employed.

“It was established that Mkhize, is registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) in the profession of homeopathy, which is a diagnostic profession registered under the AHPCSA.

“It was also established that the profession in which she is registered under does not permit the issuing of PDPs,” said the HPCSA.

Mkhize was apprehended and is expected to appear in court soon.

The HPCSA urged health-care professionals outside its organization to refrain from illegal activity.

“The HPCSA is appealing with other professionals outside of the HPCSA to refrain from committing fraudulent activities as this brings the profession of health care into disrepute.”
