9-year-old fights for her life after being shot during scuffle between ANC & EFF members in Limpopo

A nine-year-old child is fighting for her life in hospital after being struck in the head by a stray bullet during a scuffle involving African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members in Limpopo.

The fight happened when both parties were on an election campaign at the Juju Valley settlement in Seshego last Sunday.

An ANC member, Jossey Buthane, has been arrested for attempted murder relating to the incident.

Last Sunday, nine-year-old Tshiamo Lebaka woke up excited to go watch a local soccer tournament.

Police say during the game, EFF and ANC members squared off against each other.

In a video sent to the publication what started off as an exchange of playful banter between the two groups quickly escalated into a full-blown fight.

A gun went off and hit Tshiamo in the head, leaving her unconscious.

Her mother Ratilwe Lebaka said this felt like a bad dream.

“I never thought something like this would ever happen. We really do try to get along here. In fact, we live peacefully, the only issue is the water and sometimes electricity.”

Tshiamo has received surgery to remove the bullet that was lodged in her skull, however, some fragments still remain.
