SCOPA summons Ditsobotla Municipality to account for its financials

The North West Legislature’s Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA) has lambasted the Ditsobotla Local Municipality for failing to submit its statements for the 2022-2023 financial year.

SCOPA committee summoned the municipality to come and account and the provincial Treasury and Co-operative Governance Department which have been supporting the troubled municipality. SCOPA chairperson Smuts Mathe has instructed the municipality to submit all outstanding reports.

“It can’t be business as usual. You don’t comply with the law, and you are saying we are waiting for the next Christmas. It doesn’t work that way. You have to account. So, the administratively as well as politically. You have failed to implement what the law says. You had incidents where people thought in Ditsobotla is a hunting ground when you want to make money.”

However, the Municipal Manager Olaotse Bojosinyane has refused to take responsibility for the problem.

“The institution was under Section 139; it was dissolved and all we know is the consequences of Section 139. And then in that particular regard, the provincial government is in control of the administration of the institution. So, from our reports we are saying November 2022 up until June 2023 is a period of eight months where legally speaking the administration of the institution was not under the direct control of the administration.
