SAD: 8 pupils take turns to rape 12-year-old boy at school’s showers, force him to suck their private parts

A mum wants answers after her son was allegedly raped and s.e.xually abused by eight pupils at a special school in Belfast, Mpumalanga.

The boy (12), who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, told his mother this happened in the hostel’s showers at night.

According to the boy, the pupils took him to the shower, allegedly raped him and forced him to suck their private parts.

They allegedly threatened to kill him and his mother if he told anyone about the incident.

The mother said she learnt about the ordeal when the school called her for a meeting.

She said when she got there she found the alleged perpetrators’ parents, school staff and education officials.

“By the look of things I was the only one who was not aware of the incident,” she said.

“A department official told me there was no need to escalate the matter because it would disturb the pupils and I should wait for the school to conduct its own investigation.”

The mum said a doctor confirmed that her son was raped. She said he also had wounds on his mouth and private parts.

“I went back to the school to look for answers, but was sent from pillar to post.

“I’m not happy at all with the way they dealt with the matter.

“I’ve since withdrawn my son from the school because I am scared the rape might continue.”

The mother said what pained her the most was that her son was progressing well since joining the school in February. But he hasn’t been himself since the incident.

“He just sits and stares at us. He’s disturbed and refuses to go back to school. I’ll not send him back as it’s clear the school is not safe.”

Mpumalanga education spokesman Jasper Zwane said the department was disturbed by the allegations and took them very seriously.

“A social worker and psychologist were sent to the school to give the necessary support to the affected pupils and offer counselling.

“The school is interacting with the parents of affected pupils and will convene a disciplinary hearing on Thursday, 3 June.”

Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said a rape case was opened but no arrests had been made.

“The suspects are waiting for an assessment by probation officers as they’re still minors. The officers will give recommendations based on their assessment,” he said.
