Sasol’s share price halves as oil price crashes

Chemical group Sasol may see its worst day on the market in its history on Monday. Its share price halved on Monday morning as global oil counters were battered by the oil’s biggest daily loss since 1991.

Sasol produces synthetic oil from coal, and its share price fall wiped about R50-billion off its market capitalisation.

The oil price earlier fell as much as 31 percent after the Saudi move to start a price war. This follows Russia’s refusal on Friday to put production cuts proposed by Opec into effect.
