The Border Management Authority (BMA) said it has closed some of the country’s ports of entry due to inclement weather.
The BMA said that the Sani Pass, Boesmansnek, and Monontsha borders, which connect South Africa to Lesotho, have all been closed on Saturday until further notice.
It said persistent snowfall in and around these areas has made them very risky to travel on.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level six weather warning for disruptive snow and heavy rains across the country.
“This precaution is taken to ensure the safety of travellers, tourists, and officials, as the current conditions pose a significant danger,” said BMA spokesperson Mmemme Mogotsi.
“Travellers are advised that Ficksburg Port, Caledonspoort, Makhaleng, as well as Maseru ports of entry, can be used as alternatives to enter Lesotho.”
