SAPS whistleblower pleads for protection

SAPS whistleblower Patricia Mashale is appealing for protection from the government. She says her life is in danger after exposing alleged corruption within the police crime intelligence sector in 2009. Mashele was reportedly dismissed last year as a senior administrator in the Free State.

”Key issues I revealed were gross corruption implicating SAPS officials, stock theft, abuse of power,” she said.
After I blew the whistle, one of the generals implicated obtained a protection order to stop me from exposing this corruption, I received a notice again today.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate says it has already instituted investigations into the allegations made by Mashale and other disgruntled officers.

The directorate says they met with the complainants in April and are working on the report.

“Our investigation established or uncovered that some of the legitimate concerns that were raised by some of the disgruntled workers were not addressed and therefore we are busy working on a recommendation report that will be sent to SAPS for actioning our recommendations,” said IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping.
