The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) says it has no issue with the wearing of Muslim headscarves. It, however, says it has strict policies in ensuring workers look professional. Brigadier General Monwabisi Jamangile said the army and Muslim Judicial Council have come to an agreement that does not impede the policy of the SANDF.
We have agreed with the council that they can wear under-scarves. It will not impede [the] professional image of the SANDF dress code.
Isaacs is considering mounting a constitutional challenge against the SANDF, saying its rules are at odds with the country’s supreme law.
