SANDF members to continue patrols

Despite 2,700 soldiers continuing their deployment across the country, Cape Flats residents say they won’t make much of a difference.

Murder and other violent crimes have been on the increase over the festive season.

Residents say much more needs to be done, especially regarding witness protection after they have testified.

Crime-fighting organizations in Nyanga say the justice system continues to let them down, as criminals are often only held for a few days before being released.

They say joint efforts are needed to eradicate the scourge.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the SANDF deployment across the country will continue until March this year.
