SALGA mourns death of former Eastern Cape chairperson Mxolisi Koyo

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) is mourning the death of its former provincial chairperson, Mxolisi Koyo.

SALGA remembered him for his diligent work as a Provincial Electoral Committee member. Previously, Koyo also served as Mayor of the Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

SALGA described Koyo as a community server who placed moral regeneration at the center of the local government transformational agenda and promoted ethical leadership and clean administration. SALGA provincial spokesperson Mesuli Ngqondwana said his passing was a deep loss.

“As SALGA, he leaves us in the process of the professionalisation of the local government sector that seeks to ensure that we project the local government sphere as an effective one that is free from the general blame of ineffectiveness and lack of efficiency. We say may his soul rest in peace.
