Family battling to deal with nine-year-old Sadia Sukhraj’s death in highjacking

The family of nine-year-old Sadia Sukhraj has described her as a “bubbly” child who loved spending time with her family.
The grade four pupil sustained gunshot wounds to the stomach on Monday morning during a shootout between three hijackers and her father.
The suspects are understood to have fled the scene with the child still inside the vehicle.
She later died in hospital.
Devastation and hurt, especially the mother.”
Sukhraj’s relative Devika Sukhraj says the family is struggling to come to terms with their loss.
“’Bye, I’ll see you in the afternoon, enjoy school,’” is the last thing Devika said to the little girl.

At the same time, last night police had to use stun grenades and tear gas to disperse hundreds of residents who had gathered outside the Chatsworth Police Station demanding urgent action from authorities.
Earlier, residents had told Eyewitness News that hijackings and robberies have been on the rise in the area and surrounding communities.
