Court dismisses union application for SABC retrenchment withdrawal

The labour court has dismissed the urgent application to force the SABC to retract retrenchment letters.

The Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union (Bemawu) wanted the letters withdrawn because it said the public broadcaster did not follow a fair consultation process.

The SABC has welcomed the labour court decision.

The public broadcaster said it has no choice but to continue with the process that will see about 400 employees losing their jobs.
