Public Enterprises Committee: SAA deal still to be finalised

It’s been almost a year since the government announced it would give up its majority ownership of SAA, but the deal has still not been finalised.
Parliament’s Public Enterprises committee says a final agreement is likely to be reached by the middle of this year.
The committee visited SAA this week as part of their oversight visits of SOEs.
Committee chair Khaya Magaxa says there are still many details to be worked out before the deal can be completed.
“Our intention was to get update on the business model since there was a business partner and we’re no longer in full control of entity and also to get answers in relation to performance of the airline,” Magaxa said.
“We are confident there’s progress and strategy in place and there’s an EQT partner and that process is still dealt with. It’s not like a process that can be dealt with in two days, it could take until mid this year. we’re confident the Department of Public Enterprise is conducting due diligence in the finalisation of the agreement. There’s still some conditions outstanding before the deal is finalised.”
