South Africa has secured 20 million litres of jet fuel for OR Tambo International Airport. Currently, the airport has about five-days’ worth of jet fuel. The consignment is expected to arrive at the National Petroleum Refiners of South Africa by 20 May
The first batch is expected to get to the airport by 27 May. It will add to the 16 million litres transported weekly to the airport via the dedicated Transnet Jet Fuel Pipeline.
The Central Energy Fund will also send an additional 1.5 million litres by the 25 May.
The Jet Fuel Forum says there is no need for airlines to store their own fuel or cancel scheduled flights.
