Drop in murder rate and s.e.xual offences cases
Police Minister Bheki Cele released the quarterly crime stats to Parliament.
These figures cover criminal incidents identified and reported by the South African Police Service between 1 April and 30 June of the current financial year.
Notably, there was a decline in both the murder rate and s.e.xual offences cases.
But attempted murder cases show an alarming increase.
“For the current quarter we have recorded a decrease of murders of 196 counts, that is 3.1 percent reduction,” said National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola.
“Sexual offences showed a decrease of 239, that is a 2 percent decrease.
“Then we had an increase in attempted murder.”
