Julius Malema on walking dogs during lockdown: Rubbish won’t be tolerated

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says that citizens may still enjoy some freedom during the lockdown – This included being able to take a jog or even walk a pet during the 21-day period – However, this failed to go down well with EFF leader Julius Malema
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize recently told Mzansi that citizens would be allowed to go for jogs and even walk their dogs.

This comes despite the impending 21-day lockdown which was implemented to limit the continued spread of the coronavirus in SA. Speaking to Clement Manyathela on The Midday Report, Mkhize commented on the situation.

We prefer people to stay home. If you go out and jog it must be a very short distance. Don’t mingle in crowds. If there are crowds then we will implement crowd control.” The minister says that the state does not want to have to implement stricter controls but would if people failed to comply: “No parties allowed. You cannot sit as a group, boozing or smoking together, then coughing together – and no group braaing.

This recent comment from the minister riled Economic Freedom Fighter leader Julius Malema, who took to social media to slam the notion: “I hear some people will be allowed to walk dogs, just don’t try us, please. We support the government’s intervention, but rubbish won’t be tolerated.” The EFF has been extremely vocal during the pandemic, urging citizens to heed the government’s calls to practice social distancing and proper hygiene in full support of the current lockdown plans.
