City of Tshwane on track to meet 2026 upgrades deadline of Rooiwal water treatment plant, says Brink

Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink says the metro is on track to meet the deadline it set to upgrade the Rooiwal wastewater treatment plant.

Brink was speaking during an oversight visit at the plant on Wednesday, along with Department of Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu.

A new contractor was appointed to carry out repairs at the plant, after a previous one abandoned the project.

Brink said while the work was still in its early stages, it seemed the upgrades would meet the 2026 completion deadline.

“I am confident. The progress we see here shows us that we are on our timeline to upgrade the water treatment plant. Of course, we are going to need additional funding for the last phase of the project. But we have started, and it’s important to show the public that we are getting things done.”
