S.e.xual assault trial against ex-Rondebosch teacher postponed to November

The s.e.xual assault trial against retired Rondebosch teacher Iain Wares did not go ahead as scheduled in the Wynberg Regional Court on Thursday.
After the magistrate hearing the matter called in sick, the case was postponed to 26 November.
The former Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School teacher is accused of sexually and physically abusing a former pupil at the school in 1988.
Wares also faces more than 70 charges related to similar offences in the United Kingdom (UK).
A second State witness, believed to be the wife of one of Wares’s alleged victims, was due to testify on Thursday.
Her husband, only known as Stephen, wrapped up his testimony in July.
Minister of Justice Thembi Simelane has since confirmed Wares would return to Scotland to face further child sex abuse charges.
It’s not yet clear whether Wares plans to appeal or review his extradition to the UK.
