City of Cape Town says it needs R1 billion for road maintenance programme
The City of Cape Town says R1 billion per year is needed for its road maintenance programme, even though 75% of the metropolis’s roads are still in good condition.
Mayco member for urban mobility Rob Quintas said the funds would also be used to reduce the existing road maintenance backlog in the long term.
Quintas’ statement comes after the city issued an updated integrated transport plan for public comment on Thursday.
The plan, approved by the council in 2023, outlines strategies for 2023 to 2028 to improve transport in Cape Town.
