Police appeal for information following Riverlea shooting
Police are probing the discovery of five bodies of suspected illegal miners in Riverlea in Gauteng.
They are calling on anyone with information to come forward.
The bodies were found in Riverlea and the nearby Zamimpilo Informal Settlement this weekend.
Police were responding to a shooting in the area when the bodies with gunshot wounds were discovered.
Preliminary investigations suggest two rival groups were shooting at each other.
The Tactical Response Team and Public Order Policing unit have been deployed to monitor the area.
A case of five counts of murder has been opened.
Accounts from locals and videos on social media suggest the gangs were using automatic weapons.
