Richards Bay suburbs exempt from load-shedding

While load-shedding makes a return for the bulk of South Africa on Tuesday, 2 January, some Richards Bay suburbs will be exempt.

Birdswood, Mandlazini, and Veldenvlei will escape rolling blackouts until such time as the electrical upgrades at the Vega substation, which began prior to Christmas, are completed.

According to City of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Christo Botha, who is also chairperson of the electrical portfolio, municipal electricians will be on-site only on Monday, 8 January, with work estimated to be completed next week Friday.

“Until such time, as we promised last year, you guys will not be subjected to load-shedding,” said Botha, addressing the affected communities.

“So, if all goes according to plan, the project will be completed by next week Friday.”
