Human rights activist Rhoda Kadalie has passed away

Academic, gender activist, and former SA Human Rights Commissioner, Rhoda Kadalie, has died aged 68.
She passed away in Los Angeles in the US, where she’s been staying with her daughter.
Her brother, Bruce, announced through Facebook that Kadalie died a few hours ago.
Kadalie was SA’s human rights commissioner from 1995 until her widely publicized resignation in December 1997.
In 1999 she founded Impumelelo Social Innovations Centre, which promoted improving poor people’s quality of life.
She’s also founder of the Gender Equity Unit at the University of the Western Cape.
Kadalie was also a columnist for different newspapers.
She shocked many when in 2016 she came out in support of controversial former US president, Donald Trump.
At the time Kadalie said Trump’s victory was “good for the world”.
She was born in Cape Town’s District Six.
