More children and teachers return to schools in KZN

The Education Department says it’s encouraged that more children are returning to school in KwaZulu-Natal.

A total of 124 schools suffered serious damage during the floods and 72 remain inaccessible.

The department is now working on bringing in mobile classrooms.

“We’ve seen an increase by learners and teachers, this week, by Friday we were at 90 percent in the affected areas which means people are slowly going back to work,” spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said.

“There is still fear and trauma and the rains that are still coming down in some areas of KZN are not making it easier so some roads are still not accessible but we are still seeing an increase in the number of people that are going back to school.”
