Suspects of online dating scam return to court
The 8 ‘Romance Scammers’ arrested in Cape Town will apply for bail on Tuesday.
They are accused of conning vulnerable women in the US out of millions of dollars.
US authorities are in the process of applying for the men to be extradited.
The accused want to be released pending the outcome of that application.
The National Prosecuting Authority is opposing the bail bid.
It says they are flight risks, and some are already illegal immigrants.
The alleged conmen lured the women using social media and online dating websites.
The FBI and US Secret Service joined forces with the Hawks to track down and arrest the men.
