Mpumalanga premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane admits guilt, pays fine

Mpumalanga Premier, Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane has finally owned the error of her ways. She has made a statement of guilt at a police station in eMalahleni and accepted a fine.

This comes after being adamant that she did not break the law when she went without a mask at the funeral of Jackson Mthembu on Sunday.

She has since written a letter of apology to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy President David Mabuza following public outrage.

She has also committed to buying 1,000 masks to be distributed in eMalahleni, to demonstrate just how remorseful she is.

Under the National Disaster Management Act, a person can be fined up to R1,500 for failing to wear a mask following a warning from a police officer. The Mpumalanga Premier will also be isolating for 14 days.
