Rebecca Kotane an activist in her own right, says Motlanthe

Struggle stalwart Rebecca Kotane was laid to rest in Pella in the North West on Saturday.
She passed away last Sunday at the age of 108.
Kotane was the wife of the late former SACP general secretary Moses Kotane.
She took part in the 1956 Women’s March to the Union Buildings in protest against the Pass laws.
Former President Kgalema Motlanthe spoke at her funeral via video link and said more should be written about heroes like Kotane.
He says she should be remembered as a freedom fighter in her own right.
“We need to engage our scholars to tell the story of our heroes and heroines,” he said.
“I’m sure our historical archives can learn from the richness of our history.”
