Eastern Cape Health Dept: Statutory rape case opened against teen who impregnated 12-year-old ! The Eastern Cape Health Department said that a case of statutory rape had been opened against the 17-year-old teenager who impregnated a 12-year-old girl in Komani.

The incident sparked public concerns when the 12-year-old gave birth at the Frontier Hospital on Wednesday.

The provincial health department said that the matter would be further investigated in order to determine the background of the girl.

The department has assured that it was taking legal action and would involve the department of social development for further interventions.

The health spokesperson in the province, Mkhululi Ndamase, said that the department was alerted by doctors when the minor first came to the hospital to give birth.

“We’re hoping that the law will definitely take its course because there’s no way that a 12-year-old girl who is supposed to be playing with dolls, so its very worrying, its concerning. We’re hoping that the law will now take its course.”
