Gauteng supply to be restored by Sunday, says Rand Water

Rand Water says it’s gradually restoring water in areas affected by an explosion at Rand Water’s Palmiet Pump Station.

It’s calling for water to be used sparingly.

It says its systems should be fully restored by Sunday.

Parts of Johannesburg, Pretoria and Ekurhuleni are affected.

“We are pumping at 70-percent. Yesterday [Tuesday] we managed to increase our supply of water,” said Rand Water spokesperson, Justice Mohale.

“We encourage those who have water to use water sparingly so that they don’t decrease the entire system.”

Mohale said they have been working around the clock.

“We are confident that by Sunday, we would have repaired all those parts that needed to be repaired and restore full pumping capacity.”

The water utility said in a statement that the cause of the explosion is still unknown and being investigated.
