Ramaphosa is now ready for battle with Busisiwe Mkhwebane

President Cyril Ramaphosa and his camp are already anticipating a less-than-favourable finding when the Public Protector releases her report on his BOSASA donation
Preparations are being made with this in mind, with the president waiting on an explanation from former CEO Gavin Watson as to why he paid the sum in the first place – Meanwhile, Busisiwe Mkhwebane claims that attempts to have her removed from office were meant to distract her from her work in the case

Busisiwe Mkhwebane
President Cyril Ramaphosa has his hands full, with the Public Protector anticipated to make an adverse finding against him in her BOSASA investigation. The leader made a last-ditch effort to convince Busisiwe Mkhwebane that he had not been captured by the private interests of those who contributed to his ANC campaign. His team is already predicting a negative finding, discussing a possible court review as is the president’s right in this regard, reports News24.

A source in Ramaphosa’s inner circle commented on the matter, saying that Mkhwebane’s intentions have been made clear: “It is clear that she is going to make an adverse finding, so we have advised the president on the review process, including that the implementation of the remedial action would also have to be interdicted pending the outcome of the review

However, should Ramaphosa choose to go this route, the documents from Mkhwebane’s investigation would become part of the public record, revealing who financially backed the president’s campaign.  The Public Protector’s report had dubbed Ramaphosa’s explanation as inadequate, indicating that she would be making an adverse final finding unless the president could produce a better explanation.

Ramaphosa’s response to the Public Protector initially meant to include a response from BOSASA ex-CEO Gavin Watson, but the notorious boss had missed his deadline. The president’s office had expressed their displeasure in this regard, with Mkhwebane promising that her office would push for Watson to at least provide an explanation, seeing as he was ‘not under investigation’.

Meanwhile, Mkhwebane claims that attempts to have her removed from office were designed to distract her from the high-profile investigation. The Public Protector claims that the campaign for her removal had been pushed because she knows ‘a lot’, saying that it was common for her office to uncover information that had the potential to embarrass powerful people.
