President Ramaphosa extends the lockdown with 2 more weeks

President Ramaphosa says the coronavirus crisis has worsened around the World since he addressed the nation two weeks ago when he instituted the lockdown. The president says the public has “reaffirmed to the world” that South Africans come together at a time of crisis.

He says he had met with provincial Premiers about interventions in provinces on Thursday. Ramaphosa also sympathises with the public for having their lives brought to a halt. He says South Africans have largely stuck to the new regulations and would like to personally thank them.

Ramaphosa says government will introduce a comprehensive economic care package and will increase social support to assist vulnerable households.

The president also said the shortage of medical supplies, like masks and gloves, is a worldwide problem. He says South Africa has had to source supplies from other countries and says the government has established a ventilator project to increase provisions. Other projects are looking at increasing the supply of hand sanitiser and other essentials.

There’s no denying the difficulties the coronavirus pandemic has brought but actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa has shared that there’s also been a lot of lessons she’s grateful to have learnt during this time. In a recent Instagram Live interview with Cosmopolitan SA, the actress revealed what have been her biggest lessons since the Covid-19 lockdown began last month.

“Thank you to Covid-19 because I think we all really needed this (the time out). I’ve had such a great time introspecting and I’ve been doing a lot of praying, just having conversations with God and that has been beautiful.
