Public sector unions threaten strike action

Healthcare, education, and grant payments may soon grind to a halt.

That’s as public servants prepare to strike over unresolved salary increases for the last financial year.

Eight unions are threatening to strike as the state refuses to meet their 10% pay hike demand.

They have been mobilizing members after serving the government with a notice last week.

The unions also skipped Friday’s Special Council meeting with the government.

The meeting was meant to kick-start negotiations for the 2023/2024 financial year.

They say they can not begin new wage talks while last year’s issues are not yet resolved.
