Project Engineer wanted Urgently

PROJECT ENGINEER

Our client, based in Richards Bay, engages in projects which need to be managed by a dedicated person, with the support of a team to ensure the best result for the client and FSSA in all aspects. Projects could exist in the repairable or service categories of the business. Feasibility, planning, negotiation, execution, hand-over and testing takes place at, but not limited to, Richards Bay, Johannesburg and Mozambique (Mozal).

This position includes regular travel to Mozambique, and work on sites where drug and alcohol use is prohibited.

The Project Engineer reports to the Technical Manager, and works with other departments of the company to achieve his/her accountabilities, i.e. Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Warehouse and Production.

JOB PURPOSE

The Project Engineer will manage projects with the goal of delivering every project on time, within budget and within scope. Safety and quality are key requirements that need to be managed at all times.

Secondary requirements include marketing of FSSA’s products and services, using engineering skills and experience for assisting with engineering solutions, and contribution to the Engineering team for the successful operation of the department. Reporting, quotations, feasibility and administrative functions are included in responsibilities.

Project Engineer

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Degree or similar qualification in project management.

• Diploma/Degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering fields.

• ECSA registration and affiliation with professional project management bodies (for eg. PMI, PMSA, SACPCMP) is advantageous.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

• 2 Years’ experience in project management.

• 5 Years’ practical experience in the field of engineering essential.

• Technical knowledge equipment used in aluminium industry essential.

• Proven working experience in project management and organisational skills.

• Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Projects.

• Marketing skills for identifying possible new projects and business opportunities.

• Basic financial comprehension pertaining to budgets, estimations, cost control and reporting.

• Good understanding of principles of health, safety, environmental and quality in the workplace.

KPA’s

• Define project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and establishing technical and financial feasibility with the client.

• Lead project related commercial offers.

• Maintain monthly overview of services budget, monitor variations, and ensure cost control on projects, timely invoicing on projects.

• Site preparation organised in all aspects to satisfy commitments and expectations with the company and the client.

• Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.

• Define and coordinate internal resources and third parties/contractors for the successful execution of projects.

• Contribute towards contractor vendor selection and approval, led by the Commercial team.

• Develop and maintain a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress.

• Measure and report on project performance using appropriate tools and techniques (for example project reviews, cashflows, schedule and quality feedback)

• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.

PROBLEM SOLVING

• Create and maintain a documented project risk assessment to understand and mitigate risks that could be anticipated.

• In case of identified hazards take necessary actions to report, eliminate the hazard or stop activities.

• Manage changes to scope, delays, quality issues, cost overruns and all foreseeable variables during the project.

• Take all necessary actions to achieve contractual commitment.

• Be part of negotiation during RFQ or tender phase, and during close-out.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

• Maintain regular contact and a relationship with client end-users, ascertain needs, promote solutions, and develop business opportunities for the company.

• Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and contractors.

• Report and escalate to management as needed.

• Maintain a good relationship with Client product companies

• Contribute towards good company culture, team morale and a healthy work environment in all areas.

INTERNAL / EXTERNAL IMPACTS

• Projects need to remain financially and technically viable, and need to be completed successfully. Projects impact company reputation, revenue, margins and operating costs, and thus form a key element of the business.

• Impacts to/from other departments need to be considered during the management of a project. For example warehouse operations, workshop facilities and tools, supply chain and finance.

• Resources from other departments might be used to plan, execute and hand over projects.

• Timeous planning is required with other teams in this regard.

Basic salary – Max R47 000 per month
