MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To actively manage the process of the development of relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and other deliverables from conception to approval by facilitating stakeholder consensus through technical committees.
STRATEGIC OUTPUTS
Productivity
Ensure that relevant SANS are developed and reviewed in line with National policy and imperatives i.e. IPAP
Manage the relevant standards development processes within scope of control and ensure that process integrity is maintained
Oversee that committee meetings are convened as planned and have updated Strategic Policy statements
Chair committee meetings effectively, as required
Manage and coordinate the work programmes of different technical committees
Apply and communicate rules, policies and SAC decisions related to standards development and production
Identify and engage research institutions to conduct and provide research deliverables to specific standards projects
Commission discussion papers during the development of complex standards to stimulate debate
Customer/ Stakeholder
Manage all committees, standards production processes and stakeholders within the Electrotechnical sector
Ensure that all stakeholders are aware and adhere to good standardisation practices and other relevant guidelines
Oversee that delegates representing South Africa project South Africa’s mandate/interests on international work items and take action accordingly
Manage participation in international and regional standards development forums
Collaborate with the committee support team and stakeholder specialists to improve the profile of the committees
Prepare reports for management and industry as and when required and ensure reports are submitted by experts participating in regional and international standards meetings
Actively take leadership roles in international standards development committees.
Act as primary interface between technical committees and SAC including the development of briefings and updates
Conduct workshops with SMEs and stakeholders on standards that will affect them prior to the development of standards and ensure their inputs are included

Mitigate any risks as and when they arise
Manage departmental projects within budget, time, designated delegation of authority and scope of control
Conduct best practice research and benchmarks within scope of control
Manage all logistics for international meetings held in South Africa (where applicable) as per budget and delegation of authority
Competent and empowered employees
Manage the department and optimise all resources, including the management and evaluation of performance (inclusive of financial, physical and people resources)
Implement effective employee engagement and diversity management principles within the team
Ensure that leadership opportunities in the international committees are identified and discussed (e.g. Chairmanship, secretariat, etc.)
Provide assistance, guidance and training (where necessary) on SABS procedures to employees and stakeholders
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS,SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
B Degree / National Diploma in electrical engineering or a related discipline
8 years’ relevant work experience with at least 5 years’ in management, 2 years’ of which should have been in a middle managerial role
Project management experience would is an added advantage
Stakeholder engagement experience is an added advantage
Understand the standards development environment
Excellent command of the English language
Proven track record in managing process facilitation initiatives from conception to implementation
Knowledge of the Standards Act and PFMA
