Prisons hit hard by COVID-19

There’s been a spike in COVID-19 infections in prisons in two of the country’s hotspots. The Correctional Services Department says it’s concerned about the increase in cases in the Western and Eastern Capes.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country’s prisons has climbed to 1,128. Close to 500 officials have contracted the virus, while over 660 inmates have been infected. Eastern Cape correctional facilities have the highest number of infections with over 670 cases.
