Prison is no 5-star hotel

Prison is no 5-star hotel. Prisons are packed with lowly misfits who live the luxurious life they craved but could not afford on the outside. Jailbirds have no right to be treated like royalty.
Being in jail is not a privilege. It is a form of punishment and not a reason for one to carry on as if they are on vacation.
Therefore, I was surprised to read that Leeuwkop prisoners lived the kind of life law-abiding citizens could not afford. The big question is: how did smartphones, scissors, needles, dagga and mayonnaise get inside prison walls?
Where were warders when this happened?
Some of the confiscated items could have been shaped into deadly weapons. Point is, prison bosses should come up with a plan on how to stop contraband smuggling.
The way things are going, even people who are not criminals will now commit crimes just so they can go to jail and live the good life.
Meanwhile, fellow ex-cons have gone on to become graduates. Clearly, there is a serious problem here. Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha should tighten the screws.
