Presidential Protection Services officer sentenced to life for killing civilian

A Presidential Protection Services officer has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder of a civilian by the Polokwane High Court.
Sergeant Mphela Mokoena has been found guilty of murdering Moloto Shongwe in May 2021.
It’s believed the two had an altercation at the parking lot of a fast-food outlet in Biccard Street, Polokwane.
“Mokoena fired four shots using his service pistol, and one bullet hit Shongwe who was declared dead at the scene by paramedics,” said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate’s spokesperson – Phaladi Shuping.
