President Cyril Ramaphosa declares Sunday 31 May National Day of Prayer

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced 31 May as the National Day of Prayer. This as the country battles the COVID-19 pandemic. On Tuesday, Ramaphosa announced that places of worship may reopen subject to strict restrictions under level three of the lockdown.

“I, therefore, urge all South Africans to heed the call of the leaders of our various faith communities for a national day of prayer on Sunday, the 31st of May,” Ramaphosa said. We will once again come together to pray for the healing of our land and the protection of our people. On this day, wherever we may be, I call upon you to turn your thoughts to all who have been affected by this pandemic,” Ramaphosa added.

Churches, temples, mosques, synagogues, and other recognised places of worship will resume services with a maximum amount of 50 people or less depending on the space available. Ramaphosa advised that social distancing will have to be observed and that face-masks will have to be worn by all congregants.
