President Cyril Ramaphosa applauds signs of Sars turnaround

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the SA Revenue Service is showing positive signs of a turnaround.
He notes that restoring stability and credibility at Sars was among his foremost priorities when he was elected President.
Last week, the revenue service announced over R1.5-trillion in preliminary tax revenue collection.
Ramaphosa says this is part of Sars’ strategy to promote tax morality and compliance.
Most of the recommendations from the Nugent Commission have been adopted, including the re-establishment of the capacity to monitor and investigate illicit trade and hold tax dodgers to account.
As we forge ahead with efforts to strengthen the capacity of the state and rebuild institutions that were systematically weakened by state capture, we have much to learn from what SARS has achieved in a relatively short space of time.https://t.co/KpgJMDRFP2 pic.twitter.com/ipnyA2jKri
