Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has tweeted that he had a phone conversation with President Cyril Ramaphosa, after the South African leader spoke with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on as far back as 10 March . According to Zellenskiyy, the impacts of the conflict in Ukraine were front and centre during their discussion.
He says he told President Ramaphosa about his country’s resistance to Russian aggression and discussed the threat of the global food crisis and the issue of deepening relations with the Republic of South Africa. Zellenskiyy says they also touched on cooperation within international organisations.
Ramaphosa recently discussed the Ukraine file with United States President Joe Biden on 8 April while he claimed a mediation role for South Africa after his conversation with President Putin in March.
