President Cyril Ramaphosa to attend European Union – African Union Summit

African leaders, including President Cyril Ramaphosa, are expected in Brussels, Belgium to attend the sixth European Union – African Union Summit.
The purpose for this year’s edition is to design and launch an ambitious Africa-Europe investment package which will offer economic support to the continent.
The two-day meeting, which starts Thursday, aims to respond to the challenges created by the global COVID-19 pandemic. The agenda for the sixth EU-Africa Summit is extensive.
At the top are growth financing, improving public health systems and vaccine production. The COVID-19 pandemic amplified the continent’s challenges in those areas.
The summit will also discuss probable solutions for infrastructure development, private sector integration and digital connectivity.
Another hot topic is peace and security, the EU has been approached on several occasions to offer assistance in regions experiencing instability. Recently, West Africa has seen increasing illegal regime change whilst fighting in the Horn of Africa continues.
