President Cyril Ramaphosa defends money spent on Presidential Imbizos
Money spent on the Presidential Imbizo’s is money well spent. That’s according to President Cyril Ramaphosa. R44 million has been spent on four events in eight months to host the Presidential Imbizo’s with some criticizing the amount as exorbitant. The first Presidential Imbizo for the President’s second term started in Ekurhuleni. President Ramaphosa has hit out at critics of the amounts of money spent on his Imbizo’s.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called the amount spent as unreasonable. However, the First Citizen defended the amount as good value for money due to being able to interact with the people to know their challenges.
“It may look expensive but this is money well spent. We are interacting with the people and some people have complained that they feel excluded. The mayor spent the night interacting with people and we have learned valuable lessons.”
Infrastructure in Ekurhuleni has dilapidated, especially rail which was one of the cheapest forms of transportation. Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy has vowed to fix the passenger rail infrastructure in the metro.
“We are fixing the rail infrastructure, we are a bit behind here in Ekurhuleni, but we need to have a good passenger rail system as that will reduce the costs of traveling to work,” Energy and Electricity Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has promised to install solar panels and batteries to mitigate the poor of the high cost of electricity.
“Free electricity will come to you. We are going to install solar panels for poor people in the township so that they are not impacted by the high cost of electricity.”# President Ramaphosa and ministers have also called on the municipality to fix and build new infrastructure to provide water to the residents whilst also improving other service.
