President Cyril Ramaphosa responds to criticism of electricity Minister

President Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed the criticism of the position of Minister of Electricity, saying it is misguided. Ramaphosa will appoint the minister to be based in the Presidency. This is government’s latest attempt to deal with the country’s worsening electricity crisis. On Thursday, the president declared a national state of disaster over the electricity crisis with immediate effect.
He said the state of disaster will exempt critical infrastructure including hospitals and water treatment plants from rolling blackouts.
